The Nature Walk: Great Horned Owls

Hoo-hoo Hoo Hoo! Have these noises ever filled the air around you. I have heard them many times and have learned a great deal from the owls who made them.

For example you would say owls come out only at night, but I've had quite a few daytime encounters. Also many people think owls are scared of people, in my experience they aren't. I once had a memorable encounter which denies both of those theories. Once at around noon I heard an owl hooting. I raced outside. I found the tree the owl was sitting in without much trouble. He was in the bottom branches and when he leaned forward he was so close I could almost touch him. So that proves that owls do sometimes come out in the day and that they also aren't always afraid of people, not to mention it was a life-changing experience.

Other facts on owls: 1. Females are larger and have a higher call than males. 2. Owls can't move there eyes 3. I actually found this out thanks to the owls around; but owls also make a variety of squawks and they also make a noise that sounds something like drumming noises.

Mousy
